At Big G Electric and Engineering, LLC, a proud subsidiary of Koniag Energy & Water, we know that building a brighter future starts with investing in people. The skilled labor shortage in the Electrical and Automation fields has underscored the urgent need for innovative training and workforce development, and we’re taking action.
Recently, our General Manager, John Nichols, toured three incredible Texas colleges—San Jacinto College, Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT), and HCC Northwest College. These visits weren’t just about introductions; they were about creating meaningful partnerships that inspire students, connect them with opportunities, and help bridge the gap between education and industry.
Here’s how we’re making an impact:
San Jacinto College
During his visit, John toured their facility, to explore how Big G can help students transition from campus to career. With a strong emphasis on practical training, San Jacinto College is equipping graduates with the skills needed to excel. Together, we’re creating opportunities for students to join our team and gain real-world experience that matters.
Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT)
At LIT, Dean of Instruction Allen Welch provided John with an in-depth tour of their advanced facilities and curriculum. Programs like Instrumentation Technology, Commercial Electrical Technology, and Computer Drafting Technology are key to addressing the workforce needs of our industry. Big G is excited to support LIT students, providing the guidance and opportunities they need to thrive in rewarding careers.
HCC Northwest College
HCC’s Northwest College showcased its cutting-edge programs in Electrical Technology, Engineering, and Controls and Engineering Technology during John’s visit. Conversations with Sharon Thomas and Nathan Rosas from Career Services focused on how Big G can align with HCC Northwest College’s career readiness initiatives. Together, we’re helping students turn their education into a springboard for success.
Why This Matters
As part of the Koniag Energy & Water family, Big G Electric is deeply committed to solving today’s workforce challenges while building stronger communities. By forging relationships with forward-thinking institutions like San Jacinto, LIT, and HCC Northwest College, we’re empowering the next generation to embrace careers that are essential to the future of energy, infrastructure, and innovation.
Students who enter the Electrical and Automation fields aren’t just gaining technical skills—they’re joining an industry that powers everything we do. And we’re proud to be part of their journey.
