Project Need and Condition Prior to Performing the Work
This project was initiated to address the expansion needs of a customer who was installing a new three-well pad and adding a well to an existing pad. The site required significant upgrades, including the addition of three-phase separators, water transfer pumps, oil storage tanks, and water storage tanks. To enhance operational efficiency and safety, the customer needed to install level transmitters, pressure indicating transmitters (PITs), and level switches (tuning forks) on the new tanks and separators. Additionally, the project required the installation of new cable trays, conduit, supports, and wiring to connect the new devices and equipment. A crucial aspect of the project was installing and terminating fiber optic cable between the well pad and the Central Tank Battery (CTB), along with necessary PLC programming additions and new logic installations. Koniag Energy & Water’s subsidiary, Big G Electric, was tasked with these extensive requirements, needing a contractor capable of identifying necessary additions, sourcing materials and instrumentation, and completing the project with minimal oversight.
Implementation and Scope of Work Performed
Big G Electric embarked on this complex project with detailed planning and execution. The team sourced key items, including instruments, fiber optic cable, PLC equipment, and electrical equipment, ensuring all materials were available to meet the project’s tight timeline. They meticulously planned the routes for conduit and cable trays and executed these installations efficiently. Determining the necessary cables and wires for the new instrumentation and electrical equipment was a critical step, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
Working under challenging conditions, including high H2S areas, the certified team safely and efficiently installed new instrumentation in both existing and new tanks. The project also involved the installation of over one mile of fiber optic cable, including fiber fusion and OTDR testing to ensure proper operation.
